IHCD First Person On Scene (INTERMEDIATE)

This course is designed to take the First Aider on to the next skill level, students will be taught the skills associated with rapid assessment, stabilisation and transfer of both the trauma victim and those suffering a medical emergency. It is aimed at those working in high risk and hostile environments. FPOS is fully recognized by the Security Industry Authority.

The first three days of the course are FPOS which is approved by Edexcel and is IHCD managed. The additional two days are for those requiring extended skills. The training includes both theoretical lectures and practical sessions, designed to develop a good, all round Tactical First Responder.

The instructors are all ex Special Forces Medics and civilian paramedics; all have recent operational experience.

The Pre Hospital Environment

  • The role of FPOS
  • Scene safety
  • Minimising risk of infection
  • Post-incident procedures

Patient Assessment

  • Communicating with patients
  • Primary survey and assessment
  • Safe moving and handling

Respiration and Airway Management

  • Recognition of respiratory problems
  • Recognition of respiratory problems
  • Common breathing difficulties
  • Basic airway management
    • Causes of blocked airway
    • Opening and maintaining a clear airway
    • Choking
  • Use of suction
  • Removal of crash helmets
  • Use of oro-pharyngeal airways
  • Oxygen supplementation

Basic Life Support

  • Perform basic life support
  • Recovery position
  • Perform child and infant basic life support

Defibrilation

  • Automated external defibrillation
  • Normal / abnormal heart rhythms

Circulation and Shock

  • Recognition and initial care of haemorrhage
  • bleeding

Medical Related Emergencies

  • Heart attack/angina
  • Diabetes
  • Stroke
  • Epilepsy
  • Unconscious patient
  • Asthma / anaphylaxis

Extended Skills are dependent on course requirements, these can include; Cannulation, Fluid Therapy, Advanced Trauma – Chest, Abdominal, Head and Extremity (including Tourniquets and Quick Clot)
