Course Duration: 0.5 Days (3 hours)
Target Audience: Anyone that has the opportunity to utilise an AED
Statistics
AED's save lives. Statistics show that more than 75 000 lives per year in the UK could be saved by the immediate availability of an AED for the person in Cardiac arrest. They are extremely safe and easy to use and provide life saving medical treatment.
Early defibrillation can increase the chance of survival from 5% to more than 50%.
Overview
On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Check for risks to the victim, any bystanders, and yourself
- Assess the victim to be unresponsive and not breathing normally
- Send someone for the AED and to call for an ambulance
- Start CPR
- Switch on the AED and attach the AED pads
- Follow the AED voice prompts
- Ensure nobody touches the victim whilst the rhythm is being analysed
- Deliver a shock to the victim safely
- Perform CPR correctly according to voice prompts
- Minimise interruptions in chest compression
- Continue as directed by voice / visual prompts

Each student will receive:
- Full joining Instructions
- Emergency First Aid at Work training manual
- Access to the student forum where you can review pre-course material, complete quizzes and finally download your certificate for safe keeping.
- Updates on changes issued by the Resuscitation Council UK
- Annual reminder for training
Assessment
You will be assessed on your knowledge through a practical assessment which will be conducted throughout the session as appropriate.
Certification
You will receive a certificate valid for 1 year on successful completion of the course. Please remember to keep it in a safe place; you may need to produce it at an interview as proof of achievement.
Progression
After the course you should be applying your knowledge, your trainer will provide feedback to your workplace if applicable. Please remember to adopt the principles gained and ensure you remain current with any changes in guidelines as advised.
